Almost a year ago, 30 journalists perished in what is now known as the Maguindanao Massacre. It’s almost a year, but there hasn’t been any clear resolution to the criminal cases against the accused.
Meanwhile, the families of the victims, continue to struggle with the death of their loved ones while most of them travel back and forth from Mindanao to Metro Manila to take part in the criminal cases against the accused.

For Blog Action Day 2010, Change.org conducted a survey asking participants what topic or issue they want to tackle and blog about. As an advocate of environmental issues, I voted for “Water” for several reasons:
Too much has been said about the hostage crisis. How it was mishandled, and how it has become a nightmare for tourism and foreign affairs. Fingers have been pointed. And an Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) has been formed to investigate what happened.
President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has accepted responsibility for what happened but has asserted that other people who are accountable for the crisis should be held accountable.
Yes, I would be one to admit that Aquino did poorly as President. At best, he was sincere but he didn’t really know what to do and didn’t really do anything to manage the situation. And even after the dust settled, his official statement sounded more like a narrative with a running commentary rather than a statement from a President looking to comfort victims and a country in shock.

Is President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III against divorce? That’s what he’s been saying.
Gabriela partylist representatives Luzviminda Ilagan and Emerenciana de Jesus havere-filed the HB 1799, the bill to legalize divorce. And with that, the debate for divorce has begun. Again.
There has been talks and debates as to the efficacy of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). Last July, Partylist Representative Mong Palatino of the Kabataan Partylist filed House Bill No. 1963 entitled “An Act to Strengthen and Reform the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), Amending for that Purpose Certain Provisions of Republic Act No. 7160, Otherwise Known as “The Local Government Code of 1991,” and for other Purposes.
RA 7160 or the Local Government Code of the Philippines includes provisions for the Sangguniang Kabataan. HB 1963, as filed by Palatino, seeks to amend this to improve the SK system and make it more effective in the current government.

Dear Ms. Iya Justimbaste,
I am writing this blog post for the sole purpose of addressing the issues you have raised in your blog post: Filipinos’ lack of individualism. I beg to differ.
While many readers are seething angry at your post, I find it laughable. It shows how much depth there is in you. Needless to say, not enough to merit engaging a debate with you. However, I find it necessary to reply with this post to assert that Filipinos do not lack individualism.
Just because you have friends who have the ” inclination to follow the norms of the society regardless of how flawed and shallow these norms are,” that doesn’t mean the rest of the Filipino are the same. Just because the people around you don’t know how to pick their leaders, don’t have conviction, and can’t think for themselves, doesn’t mean the rest of us are the same.
